Career history

Recently started as a Junior Cost Estimator for a large construction contractor. Finished school with a HKCEE certificate and choose to go straight into employment. Is enrolled on the companies in-house management development programme.

This candidate could register onto the Associate Assessment now, using the managed learning environment to record his evidence and structured development over the coming four years, at which point he would be eligible to come forward to be assessed.

Intermediate Quantity Surveyor for a built environment project management consultancy.

Career history

6 years’ relevant experience starting as a site office assistant at a large HK construction company after finishing his Higher Diploma. Having worked up to be able to move into Quantity surveying he is now looking for a qualification that will recognize his experience and competence in the QS field

This candidate would be eligible to register for Associate Assessment. As he has a related Higher Diploma he would only be required to have gained 2 years experience which he already has so he could apply for assessment as soon as he is ready.

Construction Engineer

Career history

Currently working in HK for a local Engineering Company who has been working as a construction Engineer for 6 months and holds a degree in Building Engineering that is not accredited by RICS.

Academic Qualification / Professional Membership

BSc Building Engineering

Candidates with a relevant degree that is not accredited by RICS would only be required to have a minimum of 12 months relevant experience when they come forward for Associate Assessment. However they are able to enrol at any time and start recording their evidence to count towards their Associate qualification.

This candidate already has 6 months relevant experience so if he meets the competences and can provide the evidence required he will be able to come forward for Assessment in 6 months time as once the evidence and structured development has been recorded on the Managed Learning Environment.

Contract Administrator

Career history

Currently works as Contract administrator for a research establishment. Initially joined the company 2 years ago, as a help desk administrator, and over the years, has been given additional responsibility to manage work output from a series of service providers, ultimately becoming contract administrator. Has attended many internal and external training courses, but has no formal academic qualification, now wants to complete the Associate qualification and gain the recognition that AssocRICS will bring.

This candidate can register on the Associate qualifications immediately and start collecting their portfolio of evidence. They will need to gain a further 2 years work experience before they can come forward for Associate Assessment

Career history

Currently working as the Buildings Operations Manager in the Estates and Building Department of a long established city-centre university and is responsible for service delivery from internal and external service providers. Completed a Higher Diploma/Associate Degree in Building Services Engineering 2 years ago.

As this candidate has a Higher Diploma/Associate Degree qualification they are only required to have a minimum of 2 years experience before they can come forward for assessment. Their previous experience means that they can come forward for Associate Assessment as soon as they have completed their portfolio of evidence, which can include material from their Higher Diploma/Associate Degree.

Career history

Has been a freelance facilities manager for the last 2 years. Currently hired through an agency to manage the set up of facilities management contracts for firms. This involves the interpretation and implementation of the successful bid, including the appointment of the facilities team and ultimately the appointment of a permanent facilities manager. Started his working life as a contractors QS, after gaining a foundation degree in construction. Would like to gain an RICS qualification in recognition for his expertise in the market place and make his CV more marketable.

Junior Project Manager

Career history

Enjoys working in the built environment so would like to develop their career path into Project Management. Has recently accepted a position as a Junior Project Manager for a large quantity surveying consultancy. Has just enrolled on the Associate qualification from RICS as part of an in-house fast track management development programme and has already started to compile evidence to support his assessment which will be due to take place in about four years.

This candidate could do a related Higher Diploma Course (two years). As soon as this vocational qualification is complete they would be able to come forward for Associate Assessment, using their NVQ evidence for their portfolio of evidence.

Career history

Currently working for a non-governmental organisation that is heavily involved in the built environment. Has worked in the sector for over 15 years and specialises in renovation projects on listed buildings. Career path started as a Assistant Cost Consultant, moving to Contracts Manager and finally Project Manager. Would like to complete the Associate qualification and gain the AssocRICS designation as professional recognition of his abilities, ethics and standards.

Having already gained the minimum of 4 years related experience this candidate would use the MLE to collate the 24 pieces of evidence and other requirements. Then apply for final assessment.

Career history

Currently working on a panel of residential surveyors having completed a Home Inspector diploma and an additional an accredited RICS valuation module. Would like to progress their career. Previously worked as a sales negotiator for a local estate agent.

Career history

Currently working as a surveying technician for a large UK housing association. Has worked in a surveying role since completing an NVQ 3 in Surveying property and maintenance last year. Previously employed as a project worker for a local housing association.

Contractors Quantity Surveyor

Career history

Currently working for a UK main contractor, having been employed for 12 months since graduating from a construction management degree that is not recognised by RICS. Just enrolled on the Associate qualification and has started compiling evidence, ready for assessment in approximately 12-24 months’ time.

BSc Construction Management

Candidates with a non-surveying related degree (non-cognates) would be required to have a minimum of four years’ quantity surveying experience when they come forward for Associate Assessment. However they are able to enrol at any time and start recording their evidence to count towards their Associate qualification.

Candidates that have a non-accredited or non-cognate degree but with over four years’ experience are able to submit evidence gained over their previous four years’ work experience and come forward for Associate Assessment as soon as they are ready.
